Hotel Charmant

Hotel Charmant was an okay little hotel in Katsuura. It fulfilled its purpose of providing us decent, comfortable lodging while we hiked the Kumano Kodo trails.

The staff of Hotel Charmant spoke some basic English. And they were friendly. We got by fine.

A few things to note: There is no elevator in Hotel Charmant and no laundry service. But we got by fine without those. They offer breakfast for $6, though it I think we passed on that as it was rather minimal. There are some restaurants and a Family Mart convenience store in town. And Katsuura's not a big town, so you can walk most anywhere you want to go.

There didn't seem to be a way to book via Hotel Charmant's website, which was in Japanese anyway. So I booked a standard room at Hotel Charmant via booking.com, which worked well. The room was small, but we were used to that in Japan. The view was OK, overlooking other buildings and the rather cute town of Katsuura. The beds were comfortable enough. The bathroom was small but fine. I got a kick out of watching wacky Japanese game shows on the TV. Didn't understand a lick of what they were saying, but found it entertaining nonetheless.

If you book at Hotel Charmant using this link, I get paid a small commission, though you pay the same price you would otherwise.
