Yakimono Pottery Festival

One of our favorite parts of our vacation in Japan was the Yakimono Pottery Festival we just happened to stumble upon. It happened to be taking place in Tokyo's Ueno Park the week we were lodging in Hotel Coco Grand Ueno Shinobazu across the street.

We loved the Yakimono festival and spent a few hours on two separate days browsing and shopping there. It was large with many tables and merchants under tents. There was a lot of beautiful hand-made Japanese pottery including plates, bowls, cups, and other kinds. And there were other vendors, too, selling things like fresh, fantastic mochi.

One of my favorite pieces I bought was actually a cup hand-made by the merchant who sold it to me. He said it was OK for me to take some photos.😄

The pottery was so beautiful and much of it inexpensive that we carried bags of it back to our hotel and stuffed our suitcases and backpack with as much of it as we could. The pottery we got there really makes the more bland stuff we had from American stores seem unappealing.

Only after we got back from our trip did I discover that there's actually a website devoted to Japanese pottery and their flea markets. So you can check that out if you're interested in finding one you might be able to attend.
